Over two creative, hands-on days, Cadotte Lake School was filled with colour, imagination, and the unmistakable sound of creativity in motion as students took part in a skateboard painting project generously sponsored and hosted by SLB.
What began as a stack of brand-new, blank skateboard decks quickly transformed into powerful works of personal expression. Each student was given the opportunity to design and paint their own skateboard from start to finish—turning a simple board into something uniquely theirs.
Art, Identity, and Confidence
Throughout the project, students explored colour, pattern, storytelling, and symbolism. Some boards reflected personal interests, others cultural identity, humour, or bold abstract ideas. The focus wasn’t on perfection—it was about ownership, confidence, and creativity.

Over the two days, students:
- Learned basic painting and design techniques
- Planned and executed their own original skateboard artwork
- Took pride in seeing a creative idea come to life on a real, usable object
The excitement in the room was constant, and the sense of accomplishment was unmistakable as boards began to dry and designs revealed their full impact.

More Than Just a Board
At the end of the project, every student went home with their finished skateboard and a brand-new helmet, reinforcing both creativity and safety. For many students, this was their first brand-new skateboard—something they created themselves and could continue to use and enjoy long after the project ended.

Thank You, SLB
We are incredibly grateful to SLB for sponsoring and hosting this experience. Their support made it possible for students to engage in meaningful, hands-on learning that blended art, self-expression, and real-world connection. Opportunities like this show students that their creativity matters and that their ideas deserve space and support.

A Project That Rolled Straight Into Memories
This skateboard painting project wasn’t just an art activity—it was an experience students will remember. From the first brushstroke to carrying their boards home, it was a powerful reminder that learning can be creative, personal, and joyful.
Thank you to everyone who helped make these two days such a success. We can’t wait to see these boards rolling through the community, each one telling its own story.
