A new sound is echoing through the trees of Woodland Cree First Nation—a sound of connection, creativity, and community pride. We’re proud to announce the official launch of 99.9 FM The OHO, The Pulse of Woodland, broadcasting live from Cadotte Lake School.

This isn’t just a radio station—it’s the heartbeat of a vibrant community. A station built by the people, for the people, where voices young and old share stories, music, and conversations that truly matter.

🎙️ A Voice for the Community

99.9 FM The OHO is more than just another station on the dial—it’s a space for authentic Indigenous voices to be heard. The name “Oho,” (Oo-hoo) meaning “owl” in Woodland Cree, was chosen by the students to symbolize wisdom, clarity, and the power of storytelling.

From daily updates to inspirational messages and stories from the community, the station will serve as a hub for:

  • 🎧 The Pulse Podcast – Hosted by Jesse Martineau, featuring raw, heartfelt conversations with students, elders, and community members about life in Cadotte Lake.
  • 🎶 Music by the People – A diverse mix of Indigenous artists, country, rock, metal, and hip-hop, ensuring that every voice and taste is reflected in the station’s programming.
  • 🌄 Cultural Highlights – Segments dedicated to Woodland Cree stories, language preservation, and traditional teachings.
  • 🗓️ Local News & Events – Updates on school happenings, community gatherings, and important announcements for everyone living on Woodland Cree First Nation.

🔥 Why It Matters

The launch of 99.9 FM The OHO marks a historic milestone for Cadotte Lake. The students and community members have access to a platform where they can share their thoughts, hopes, and creativity.

This project was born from a vision: to inspire hope, foster unity, and give youth a chance to express themselves in meaningful ways. From discussing mental health challenges to celebrating Indigenous identity, the station provides a safe space for conversations that have often been left unheard.

As Jesse Martineau shared during the launch:
“When I first arrived at Cadotte Lake, I felt something powerful—hope. It wasn’t just in the air; it was alive in every conversation, every laugh, and every story shared. This station will carry those stories far beyond the borders of our community.”

🦅 Empowering the Next Generation

The station isn’t just run by adults—it’s fueled by student creativity and passion. Young people are leading the way by:

  • Hosting live shows
  • Curating playlists
  • Producing original content
  • Recording interviews and podcasts

With mentorship opportunities and hands-on learning, the radio station also serves as a tool for developing valuable media, communication, and leadership skills that will help students succeed both in and outside of the classroom.
