At Cadotte Lake School, learning doesn’t always happen behind a desk. Sometimes, it happens in a kitchen filled with the warm aroma of garlic and the sound of laughter and sizzling pans. Recently, our students stepped out of the classroom and into the kitchen to make something both delicious and meaningful—homemade chicken alfredo.
Guided by our incredible cooking instructor and supported by one another, students learned more than just how to follow a recipe. They practiced teamwork, sharpened their math and measuring skills, and learned the value of patience and care in preparing a meal from scratch.
From cutting up vegetables and stirring cream sauces, to seasoning chicken and boiling pasta just right, students were hands-on from start to finish. The kitchen was alive with focus and creativity as each step of the process came together. You could see the pride on their faces as the dish began to take form—and taste incredible.
Cooking isn’t just about food—it’s about life. It teaches planning, responsibility, and confidence. Many students had never cooked a meal on their own before, and now they’re leaving the kitchen with a new skill set and belief in what they can do. It was about more than lunch—it was about empowerment.
As the alfredo simmered and steam curled up from the pots, you could feel the sense of accomplishment growing in the room. From those learning to dice onions for the first time to those stirring the final sauce, everyone played a role in making something great.
This is the spirit of Cadotte Lake School. Practical life skills. Real-world confidence. And students finding their voice and their strengths—one meal, one lesson, and one experience at a time.
Stay tuned for more hands-on adventures in our school kitchen. There’s always something cooking at CLS!
