This week, Cadotte Lake School came together for a powerful and heartfelt Remembrance Day Ceremony, filled with reflection, respect, and community spirit. The gym was transformed with handmade poppies, wreaths, and student artwork — each one representing gratitude for those who served and sacrificed for our freedom.
Students and staff stood together in silence, listening to the words and songs that reminded us all of the meaning behind remembrance. The ceremony highlighted courage, peace, and the importance of never forgetting the lessons of history.
Recognizing National Aboriginal Veterans Day – November 8
Before Remembrance Day, we also observed National Aboriginal Veterans Day on November 8, a significant day across Canada.
This day honours the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit men and women who served with bravery and dedication — many of whom faced discrimination and hardship both during and after their service. It is a time to recognize their strength and sacrifice, and to ensure their stories are remembered as part of our shared history.
At Cadotte Lake School, this moment carries deep meaning. Our students learn not only about the wars that shaped the world, but also about the resilience of Indigenous veterans — the warriors whose courage continues to inspire new generations.
Students and Community United
Students from every grade played an important role in this year’s ceremony. Each class created a handmade wreath, which they proudly presented during the event. Their creativity and care showed how remembrance can be expressed through learning, art, and community.
After the ceremony, families and guests were invited to stay for a community lunch — a time to gather, reflect, and share stories together. It was a warm reminder that remembrance is not only about honouring the past, but also about coming together in the present.

Lest We Forget
As the ceremony came to a close, the gym fell silent — a powerful moment of unity and reflection.
We remember those who gave their lives for freedom, and we honour the Indigenous veterans whose courage and legacy continue to guide us.
Lest we forget.
